Plant-based synthesis provides an eco-friendly alternative to traditional chemical methods for producing metal nanoparticles. In this research, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were created using aqueous Artemisia judaica leaf extract, which acted as both a reducing and stabilizing agent. UV–visible spectroscopy confirmed AgNPs formation through a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak at 430 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed mainly spherical nanoparticles with some size variation, while Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy indicated that phytochemicals helped reduce Ag⁺ ions and stabilize the nanoparticles. The antibacterial activity of the biosynthesized AgNPs was tested against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus) and Gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella enterica, Escherichia coli). The AgNPs exhibited broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects, with the highest activity against E. coli, highlighting their potential in antimicrobial applications. This increased effectiveness is linked to the release of silver ions and bioactive phytochemicals from the nanoparticle surface. Overall, these results suggest that A. judaica leaf extract is a promising, eco-friendly, and cost-effective method for green synthesis of functional AgNPs with notable antimicrobial and biomedical prospects.
