Abstract:

A 10-by-10 diallel design with 45 crosses - all but reciprocals - was carried out to estimate the stability of the wheat. Ten parents, forty-five crosses and two checks made up the total of fifty-seven genotypes that were examined in three replications at three distinct locations during Rabi 2020–21 using a randomised block design. Bartlett's test revealed homogeneity for all 11 characters, and a pooled analysis of variance across three environments revealed that the genotypic variance was significant when tested against G × E. The G × E interaction partitioning showed that G × E (L) was highly significant for all traits, while Environment (Linear) interaction effects were non-significant for all eleven characters. The parent, MP 1203, demonstrated its suitability in favourable environments for the majority of the characters; parent HD 3086 demonstrated its suitability in unfavourable environments for the majority of the traits. Consequently, breeding programmes that aim to stabilise traits that contribute to yield can be used by both of the aforementioned parents. The crosses HD 3086 × Raj 4079, MP 3288 × WR 544, and MP 3288 × DBW 187 showed that they could be grown in unfavourable environments, while the crosses HD 3086 × Raj 4037, HD 3086 × WR 544, MP 1203 × HI 1544, and Raj 4037 × WR 544 demonstrated that they could be grown in favourable environments for the majority of the traits. As a result, these crosses can be used in upcoming breeding initiatives to stabilise traits that contribute to yield.
