Abstract:

The experiment was conducted in post graduate Seed Testing Laboratory, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Pryagraj (U.P.) during Rabi season 2019-2020, in order to standardize the suitable Pre-sowing seed treatment for Fenugreek (..var….). Different pre-sowing seed treatments with control (Unhardened) were evaluated by screening 12 hours viz., T0 – Control, T1 – Neem leaf extract @ 5%, T2 – Neem leaf extract @ 10%, T3 – Tulasi leaf extract @ 5%, T4 – Tulasi leaf extract @ 10%, T5 – Aloe vera extract @ 5%, T6 – Aloe vera extract @ 10%, T7 – Rose petal extract @ 5%, T8 – Rose petal extract @ 10%, T9 – Lemongrass extract @ 5%, T10 – Lemongrass extract @ 10%, T11 – Mint leaf extract @ 5%, T12 – Mint leaf extract @ 10%, T13 – Cowdung @ 5%, T14 – Cowdung @ 10%, T15 – Cow urine @ 5%, T16 – Cow urine @ 10%.It was found that all the pre-sowing seed treatments showed significance difference with the control, in seed quality parameters highest germination percentage, seedling length and vigour attributes in T2- Neem leaf extract @ 10% followed by T9 – Lemongrass extract @ 5% and found to be lowest in T0- Control (Untreated seed). Pre-sowing seed treatment with Neem leaf extract @ 10% enhances germinability, vigour and seedling character. It is a simple method and no requirement for expensive equipment and chemical could be used for overcoming related to a poor germination and seedling establishment.

Keywords: Fenugreek seeds, Neem leaf extract, Tulasi leaf extract, Aloe vera extract, Rose petal extract, Lemon grass extract, Mint extract, Cow dung, Cow urine, Germination and Seedling characters
