Abstract:

The present investigation was carried out to assess the physico-chemical characteristics of Mangrove region in the Krishnapatnam coastal region (Southeast coast of India) for a period of ten (10) months from June 2016 to March 2017. Surface water samples were collected from the chosen sampling stations at fortnightly intervals and analyzed to provide baseline information on the physico-chemical characteristics of these coastal biotopes. During the study period, variations observed in different water quality parameters of mangrove stations respectively are as follows: Rainfall (392.60 mm), Air temperature in oC (25.4 to 31.2oC), Water temperature in oC (25oC to 28.8oC), pH (7.4-8.1), salinity in ppt (21-33), EC in mS/cm (32.81-51.56), DO in mg/L (2.7-5.0), BOD in mg/L (1.14-3.68), total alkalinity in mg/L (112-168), total hardness in mg/L (3349-5463), total solids in g/L (24.5-33.7), TSS in g/L (0.7-3), total ammonia in µg/L (3.6-19.8), nitrite in µg/L (0.36-3.52), nitrate in µg/L (1.84-4.85), phosphate in µg/L (1.021-3.65).
