Abstract:

The present study was planned to evaluate the labour utilization pattern in management of various categories of cattle on different dairy farms. The study was conducted from 16th November, 2015 to 13th February, 2016 at SKN COA, dairy farm, Jobner. The observations for the daily routine work on the farm (excluding milking operations) were recorded for a period of 90 days. Milking operations were observed and noted for a period of 60 days, during the above duration. The result of experiment as the data collected during the experiment was subjected to standard methods of statistical analysis. An investigation was conducted to study the labour utilization pattern in management of various categories of cattle on different dairy farms. Animals were divided in 6 groups i.e. Milch (G1), Pregnant (G2), Dry animal (G3), Calves (G4), Heifers (G5) and Bull and Bullock (G6) which taken time for milking, cleaning, feeding and miscellaneous works. The average time taken in milking operation was 16.51±0.076 min/milch animal/day. The milking operation accounted for 41.07% of the total labour requirement. The average time taken for washing of animals and cleaning of sheds of G1, G2, G3, G4, G5 and G6 groups at SKN COA dairy farm was 10.71±0.062, 8.88±0.076, 8.00±0.080, 7.75±0.079, 9.75±0.075 and 9.45±0.069 min/animal/day, respectively.  The cleaning operation accounted for 22.63% of the total labour requirement in all groups. The average time taken for feeding and watering of G1, G2, G3, G4, G5 and G6 groups was 12.18±0.061, 9.05±0.078, 8.05±0.071, 8.79±0.072, 11.75±0.063 and 9.98±0.058 min/animal/day, respectively. The average time taken for miscellaneous operations in G1, G2, G3, G4, G5 and G6 groups was 1.68±0.281, 9.63±0.090, 3.80±0.073, 1.06±0.206, 1.80±0.320, and 9.84±0.199 min/animal/day, respectively. The value analysis shows that total working time taken in G1, G2, G3, G4, G5 and G6 groups was 312.20, 82.68, 79.38, 146.90, 143.77 and 87.85 min/labour/day, respectively.
