The experiment was conducted at Hi-Tech Greenhouse of CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana during 2008-09 to evaluate the different gerbera varieties under greenhouse condition. Ten gerbera varieties viz., Amulet, Dana Ellen, Doni, Goliath, Paco, Rosalin, Salvadore, Savannah, Sunway and Winter Queen were selected for evaluation. Healthy plants were planted on raised beds in two rows at spacing of 35 × 30 cm in March, 2008. There was a significant variation in plant growth, cut flower yield and flower quality parameters of different varieties of gerbera. Plant height (41.27cm), number of leaves (42.60), plant spread (62.80 cm) and leaf area (6425.60cm2) was recorded maximum in var. Dana Ellen. The var. Amulet was the earliest (61.33 days) in flower bud appearance and var. Dana Ellen took the minimum number of days for flower opening. Dana Ellen produced the maximum number (21.13) of quality cut flowers followed by Amulet (17.13) during the period under study. Dana Ellen and Doni produced the longest stalk (62.80 cm and 61.80 cm, respectively) and the maximum diameter of flower (14.22 cm and 13.87 cm, respectively). In this experiment, we have been looked for suitable cultivar of gerbera for greenhouse production. Out of ten cultivars, Dana Ellen responds better and showed highest vegetative growth and flower production under protected cultivation but cultivar Goliath not found suitable for all vegetative and floral characteristics.
