Abstract:

This study quantifies flavonoid dynamics in Glycyrrhiza glabra L. (licorice) grown in saline soils of Syrdarya Province, Uzbekistan, during its early developmental phase. Using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), we analyzed apigenin, gallic acid, kaempferol, quercetin, and rutin in leaves, stems, and roots of one- and two-year-old plants. In one-year-old plants, rutin dominated in leaves at 1725.679 mg/L, gallic acid peaked at 509.496 mg/L in leaves, and kaempferol reached 196.686 mg/L in leaves, while apigenin and quercetin were highest in stems (93.026 mg/L) and roots (100.357 mg/L), respectively. In two-year-old plants, hapigenin increased to 145.432 mg/L in leaves, gallic acid shifted to roots (231.649 mg/L), and rutin decreased to 87.990 mg/L in leaves. These shifts highlight flavonoids’ roles in salinity adaptation, with implications for optimizing licorice cultivation in saline environments for medicinal purposes.
