Determination of Various Physical Properties of Okra Seeds

Abstract:

The study of physical properties of any seed is a vital role for development of its metering mechanism. It found that the physical properties of okra seed with two varieties namely Okra Arka and Okra Gujrat. The results found that for the variety of Arka okra, the length, width, and thickness were in the range of 5.27 to 7.29 mm, 4.67 to 6.26 mm, and 3.98 to 5.40 mm respectively. The Sphericity and Geometry mean diameter in the range of 4.53 mm to 6.15 mm and 0.86 mm to 0.85 mm respectively. The bulk density, true density, porosity, and angle of repose were 0.77g/cm3, 1.30 g/cm3, 40.62, and 26.92° respectively. Similarly, the variety of Gujrat okra, the results show that the range of length, width, and thickness were 3.39 to 5.68 mm, 2.40 to 4.95 mm and 1.57 to 4.29 mm respectively. The geometry mean diameter and sphericity in the range of 2.30 mm to 4.85 and 0.69 to 0.86 mm respectively. The bulk density, true density, porosity and angle of repose were 0.64 g/cm3, 1.112 g/cm3, 41.99 and 27.21° respectively.
