An investigation has been carried to assess the variability in wilt pathogen of sugarcane, Fusarium saccahri, with reference to its cultural, morphological, molecular and pathogenic characters in North Coastal Zone of Andhra Pradesh. Twelve samples of wilt infected sugarcane were collected from the north coastal zone of Andhra Pradesh and evaluated for their variability. Albeit very limited variability was observed with respect to cultural, morphological and molecular characters but considerable variation was found with respect to pathogenicity. Ten host differentials having different degrees of wilt reaction were selected to evaluate the pathogenicity of 12 isolates of F. sacchari. Among the sugarcane differentials studied, 2012A 246 had shown highest degree of susceptibility for two consecutive years, viz., 2018-19 and 2019-2020. Similarly the isolate collected from Bheemasingi, FS-12, had exhibited maximal pathogenicity during the cropping season 2018-2019. The study suggests that although the isolates haven’t shown much variation in cultural and morphological characters they exhibited considerable degree of pathogenic variability.
