Abstract:

The field experiment was carried out during rabi 2019 at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Vijayapur, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to investigate the effect of staggered planting and application of nitrogen on synchronization of pollen and seed parents of sunflower hybrid KBSH-78. It comprised of eight treatments with three replications in factorial randomized block design. The results revealed that sowing of pollen parent by 6 days late to the seed parent along with application of 25 kg nitrogen per hectare at button stage to seed parent resulted in better synchronization of flowering, significantly higher seed yield per ha (945 kg/ha), oil yield per ha (293 kg/ha), higher gross returns (94,614 Rs./ha), net returns (71,031 Rs./ha) and B;C ratio (4.01).

Keywords: Seed parent (CMS-78 A), Pollen parent (RHA-78 R), Application of Nitrogen, Seed yield, Synchronization, Gross returns, B:C ratio
