Surgical Management of Egg Bound in a Gramasree Chicken- A Case Report

Abstract:

Egg bound, a condition seen in birds following difficulty in laying of eggs. The condition can occurs as a result of multiple factors, but it’s mostly commonly observed in young birds which have started laying. A six month old gramasree breed of chicken presented with the complaint of unable to lay egg was subjected to physical and radiographic examination to confirm the diagnosis. The examination revealed the presence of two eggs one of was found near the vent region and the other was found deep in the uterus of the bird. Out of the two eggs the one found near the vent region was removed by physical manipulation and the second one was removed after laparotomy.
