The present report a rare case of Salmonella paraytphi A causing pleural effusion in a 22 yr female patient who presented with shortness of breath, fever, and loose stool. It has been clinically diagnosed as Pleural effusion and pleural fluid was sent for culture and sensitivity. Using standard bacteriological tests, Vitek2 compact system and serologically, the isolate was confirmed to be Salmonella paratyphi A. Salmonella paratyphi A is a rare pathogen causing pleural effusion. Hence it needs to be considered under differential diagnosis when treating the case of pleural effusion
